Whose State of Fear?
not Michael Crichton's

killer photo from today's New York Times article
credit: Fred R. Conrad
This casts grave doubt (as if we needed it) on Crichton's "novel," which is really a 700-hundred page right-wing jeremiad. By the time I finished State of Fear, I was so pissed off for being lectured to by the bastard that I promised myself I'd never buy another of his books. And I was a big fan before this latest POS.

something fishy
going on here...
fooLast night I stumbled across this blog called Beggar's Choice. It seems to be brand new. And... well, I don't know... there's just something weird about it. I mean, it looks OK (except for the sick shade of green the guy chose for the links; I assume it's a guy). And it seems to be better put together than your average brand-new blog (if you don't count the many empty and half-filled-in pages, or a certain PHP-esque fragility; which is to be expected under such circumstances). Under precisely what circumstances? I ask myself what I'm talking about. I'm not sure. Maybe the months and years without adequate REM sleep are finally getting to me. Or maybe it was all that acid I did... But no, that was 20+ years ago. Wasn't it? Oh man... I hope it was. If somebody tells me I dropped at 2 o'clock and it's now only 6, I'm gonna be in real serious trouble. I mean: real serious.

But as usual, I digress. Go check it out for yourself. And what's all this stuff about krugle? What the hell's a krugle for christsake? I thought I was just getting my head wrapped around "Web 2.0," when along comes the next goddam buzzword. Crikey, gimme a break!

Remarks at U.S. University Presidents Summit on International Education
President George W. Bush: Madam Secretary, thanks for having me. I'm here to let the good folks know here how strongly I support the national security language initiative. I've had a little problem with the language in the past, so -- (laughter.) If you've got room in the initiative for me, let me know. (Laughter.) Condi said, come on by, we've got a bunch of university presidents here. And I said, great, just so long as we don't have to compare transcripts. (Laughter.) She's the Ph.D., I'm the President. (Laughter and applause.)

Kyle Shannon is...
Suburban Rage!
I first met Kyle in what? 1995, I think it was. Pretty sure, yeah. Sometime later I went to visit him in his upper-mid-lower Manhattan web design sweatshop just as Agency.com was getting off the ground. He cashed that puppy out for a goodly chunk before the sky fell in and is now -- for his many infractions against God and man -- living in the... burbs.

Fortunately for us, it's driving him batshit.

Kyle is profiled in this cleverly undated piece in FastCompany. "It's going to take a good, long time for companies to decide how to use the Internet," he said, about 1000 web-years ago. Got that right. First they thought it was teevee, now they think it's an iPod. But hey, let's not be cruel. Give em another 20-30 years, they'll be clickin' right along. Yeah, the translucent white people of New Canaan, CT. You can go read -- and listen! -- all about them right here, at...

Net² redux
getting better all the time

A while back, I mentioned that I'd started blogging on the Net² site, which was brand new then -- and butt ugly. Well, that's not so anymore. Click here or on the grafik above to see what's new. There's a lot going on there -- including a ton of nonprofit blogging. Sign up, join in, turn on. Or wait... did I get that backwards?

rare interview with RB
head swells to immense proportions
David Newberger has posted an interview titled 10 Questions with Christopher (Rageboy) Locke on Blogging. Though my name is mentioned, I had nothing to do with it. It seems to have been something RB cooked up in secret. It's a total mystery how he continually manages to escape from the high-security dungeon in the Lower Keep. He's back in the strait jacket and leg irons at this point, but he's rocking back and forth in the corner with this stupid self-satisfied grin on his face, going "nyah-nah-nah nahhhh nah!"

Plus, as if that's not bad enough, he seems to have jumped the New Age bandwagon. Just to embarrass me, I suspect. Ooooh, one of these days, Alice...

Chris Locke's photos More of Chris Locke's photos

Until a minute ago, I had no photos. I still have no photos to speak of. I don't even have a camera. But all these people were linking to "my photos." It was embarassing. It's still embarassing. But I'm used to that.
