Friday, February 15, 2002 Speaking of the Pagan Ethos Halley Suitt welcomes RB back from wherever he's been (I'm not sure myself). OK then, here's the big insight I woke up with this morning after watching When Worlds Collide and sleeping through The 6th Day (it must have been past 3am when I slotted the tape). When I was doing PR for artificial intelligence startups (I did that, yes; mea culpa), I once confided to analyst Harvey Newquist that pet food had a larger market. We laughed. But in his next newsletter -- this must have been around 1987 -- he ran a pie chart showing all AI hardware and software revenues being dwarfed by Purina Cat Chow. He said it cost him a bunch of subscribers but that it was worth it. So I woke up thinking: where is Harvey now? I need to cite that issue for a stealth writing project I've been working on. Off to Google to see if he's still in Phoenix and find his phone number. Oh shit, this is gonna be good! 10:05 AM | link | Thursday, February 14, 2002 JOHO misses entire day of blogging! I read this and I think, well, that's it for me then, because I am now missing whole weeks, which could turn into months, years, and how long am I likely to live, anyway? I think of the gemlike insights I've recently kept to myself -- mostly because in their present pre-articulate form, they would sound like the ravings of a madman. then again, look who's talking! when did this ever bother me before? I search my soul. I wonder what has come over me. I'm so confused, spiraling between unhinged mania and abject despair... and suddenly, I notice -- hot damn! mirabile dictu! -- I'm blogging again!!! 2:54 PM | link | |
