Friday, January 18, 2002 tomislav's weblog New blood. Fresh faces. This is the blog of a friend's son. Son of a blogger! Throw him some links why doncha... "So apparently going to IHOP from 1:30am -> 3:30am this morning did not adversely affect my essay writing skills, because I whipped out a 4-pager about Huck Finn in record time this morning AND managed to sound coherent during our code review. Andy took a break from studying the resistance development of HIV protease, Josh took a break from tetris, and Dave took a break from... um... whatever it is that Dave does, to join me. Apparently Dave and I had a pseudo-argument, even though (on further reflection) it primarily consisted of me emphatically telling him things he agreed with. Andy performed the important function of pointing out that we are all full of shit, and Josh provided fodder for the assembled, completely unqualified, arm-chair pyschologists. Dave also discovered the suprisingly high exit velocity of half-and-half from those tiny plastic packets." 7:27 PM | link | Publishers Weekly reviews Bombast Evidently (I haven't seen it yet and it's not online), Publishers Weekly reviewed The Bombast Transcripts in their January 14 issue. According to reports, they said: "Resurrect William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski and Ken Kesey, add a dash of Dilbert -- and that's RageBoy." I dunno about that last one, but the rest are reasonably good company. btw, is Bukowski really dead? Shit, I guess so. How come nobody ever tells me these things? 4:00 PM | link | Netsurfer Digest reviews The Bombast Transcripts Many thanks to the intrepid heads at NSD for this one! "RageBoy is at it again. Or rather, he's been at it for several years now, spewing outrageous rants about life's rich pageant and other, less coherent subjects, mostly in his e-zine Entropy Gradient Reversals and occasionally in such best sellers as " The Cluetrain Manifesto". This new book is a collection of his best rants "in browser-free format". Entertaining is too common a word for it - regaling, cajoling, exhorting, haranguing, and magniloquent are probably more appropriate. The words "gonzo journalist" are much abused these days, which won't stop us from waving them a bit more around Chris Locke. Lots and lots of fun." 7:27 AM | link | Saltire reviews Bombast A big thank-you to Steve MacLaughlin for this wonderful review-cum-fundraising-drive! Very cool. A clip... "The Bombast Transcripts takes readers inside the sausage factory that is Chris Locke's mind. Please, no flash photography. You see how some of the ideas from both The Cluetrain Manifesto and Gonzo Marketing first sprang to life. It's not always a pretty sight, but the end result makes it all well worth it. I highly recommend ordering a healthy serving of The Bombast Transcripts, even if you've had a taste of it before." 7:23 AM | link | Halley's Comment Get yours today! "A friend sent me Christopher Locke's book from Amazon and they threw in a special treat, Locke's new workout video GONZO MARKETING AM YOGA. It's so good. Even better than Rodney Yee. His Downward Dog is hot, but his Twisted Sage pose really rocks." 5:50 AM | link | Monday, January 14, 2002 Good News from the NSA! I feel much more relaxed now. Don't you? 10:54 PM | link | |
