Sunday, March 03, 2002 The New New Economy: Yet Another Clueless Manifesto for the Post-Digital Age Coming from AMACOM in Spring 2002, this new book by proto-geeks Tim McEachern and Chris O'Brien is a howler. They asked me to blurb it, so I (finally) spent a morning with the galleys. Why did I wait so long? Here's what I just mailed them for the dust jacket: With this seminal work, McEachern and O'Brien join the ranks of Marx, Hayeck and Joe Bob Briggs. From Adam Smith's take on politics as pig racing to the Way-New corporate role of time machines and "inner loserhood," we're finally seeing the kind of literary journalism we would have had long ago if Michael Lewis and Malcolm Gladwell hadn't been so afraid of mind-altering drugs. Ten pages in, I was already getting flashbacks. And not the good kind. You can laugh, but this is the way it really is out there. Not available for pre-order from the online book outlets just yet, but keep an eye out for it. Truly some funny shit. 10:28 AM | link | |
